Editorial is about accounting
Well its about the art, but there's a lot of accounting that needs to happen. We did a job in orlando where we interviewed 20 plus people. If we lose track of one of those people, the client is gonna get pissed. So we have to make sure we've accounted for all of the peeps. This whole p2 thing can get a bit tricky when it comes to accounting. We capture the subjects, in this case, they are shot only a firestore, the firestore media is then imported into a final cut project. That final cut project is then organized. There is ample opportunity to lose track of some clips. We got to take care with this.

Firestore Madness
We shot on the HVX200. Captured to firestore.
Note: Never use firestore again unless you want a mental self flogging. What an idiotic device. Always, always go with the p2 cards. No need to ad a layer of mayhem.
Current dilemma:
Shot to Firestore
Some of the media corrupt. FCP simply gives me a stupid red warning sign with no explanation. Avid at least gives me some explanation with a PMM NOT SUFFICIENT MEDIA message.
Solution:
Researched on blogs.
Found out that its really an issue with the audio. The video is fine. It seems that the clip references are longer than the actual media. How that happened, I have no idea. I am going to research that. Could be some codec geek wants to fuck with us filmmakers, but that's too far-fetched. Probably just some glitch that we stumbled upon. Like a punji trap back in nam. Got my fuckin leg blown off on this one. Got learn to find the tripwires. I isolated the video tracks in the avid by removing the audio files from the P2 content files. Videos played great without audio. Confirmed that it was the audio. Read on avid's forum that a program called Raylight will help me convert the MXF audio to .wav's. Did a demo and thought it was going to work. Then bought the software for $195. Then, couldn't figure out how to make it work. I went back to the avid forum. Did more research found another work around. The forum recommended setting in and out points on the timeline that are just short of the full length of the media and then play in and out. God Bless it works. No error message. I then exported the clip full res to a QT file. Now I will take this into final cut where my sequence resides.
All in all a 3 hour fuck up.
